3 7   d e g r e e s The individual works within the series are comprised of found objects and materials (including; windows, wood and 3-dimensional objects). The found components are combined with 2-dimensional images and/or numbers, words and symbols forming layers within each piece. The use of a fixed light source brings an additional "shadow layer" into play.* The compilation of the layers form what is to be perceived as a final view. The "contingent reality" created by the whole of the combined layers is what interests me. As our realities are based on our perceptions (in a sense - layers) and as such I believe we create our own "contingent realities". The visual metaphors used in the work mimic this human condition. Each layer has the idea of truth and falseness. Each layer relies on the other. The building of the reality is key. The idea of the whole being more than the sum of the parts is evident in the final view where a realization takes place, supporting the notion of truth (a perceived truth) within a frame (ourselves). *(Note: some pieces within the series involve movement / motion as well.)
