I am interested in the single object, how it integrates with the background, and what feelings it may evoke. I tend to gravitate toward objects that, in themselves, have no emotional connotation, such as twigs or slabs of cheese, or fruit, placing them within a semi-abstract field. My reaction to my own work as well as other artists is primarily visceral, it either speaks to me at the gut level or not. This is in sharp contrast to my work as ballet teacher where analysis and evaluation guide the process.
